In a cyber-attack that shook the very foundation of the leading series of HBO, the Game of Thrones script was stolen and leaked online.
HBO themselves have confirmed that 1.5 Terabytes of data was stolen. Besides the scripting of Game of Thrones, Episodes of popular TV Shows Ballers and Room 104 were stolen. Hackers have apparently threatened to return for more, after breaking into HBO’s systems on Monday.
HBO have released a statement, stating that the company recently experienced a cyber-incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information.
“We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is our top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”
Is HBO hacked for real? You must be wondering the same.
In an anonymous email published by Entertainment Weekly, a group claiming to be responsible for the attack wrote.: “Hi to all mankind, the greatest leak of the cyber space era is happening.”
“What’s its name? Oh I forgot to tell, it’s HBO and its Game of Thrones…..!!!” Continued the mail. “You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it and spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling,” concluded the e-mail.
The attackers have also claimed to have hacked into Disney and Netflix in the past few months, and HBO has followed in this line of attacks on Hollywood Studios. In April, a hacker penetrated Netflix to release episodes from season 5 of Orange is the New Black. In May, hackers claimed to have stolen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Speaking about the hack, HBO CEO Richard Pepler said,” Any intrusion of this nature is obviously disruptive, unsettling and disturbing for all of us.”
“The problem before us if unfortunately, all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of,” He continued. “As has been the case with any challenge we have ever faced, I have absolutely no doubt that we hill navigate our way through this successfully.”
SO WHAT WAS STOLEN?
With HBO already receiving flak for an upcoming show Confederate, that imagines a world where slavery was not abolished, the Internet has become outraged.
Things quickly got worse for HBO in the same week, as a cyber-attack Monday morning is said to have leaked several episodes of the popular TV shows Ballers and the Duplass brothers’ new comedy Room 104.
Recent reports also indicate that the script of Game of Thrones season seven’s fourth episode was leaked.
Twitter exploded all over with tweets and links and memes flying in from all over with even speculation and conspiracy going around that the leak happened over 9 months ago and has just been addressed by HBO in a desperate attempt to cover up their mess.
RT @RT_com tweeted:
#GameOfThrones script leaked in major #HBO cyber attack.
Pulse Nigeria @PulseNigeria247 tweeted:
HBO: Hackers threaten to leak upcoming G.O.T. episodes.
Tapas Trivedi @Tapas_Trivedi tweeted:
So HBO got hacked ‘again’ and the resultant leak is the same as what was speculated a year ago? #ICallBullShit #GameOfThrones
And while twitter was going crazy, there were some people glad about the leak and even waiting for the episodes to turn up in digital form, a minor script leaks happens to have been on a Reddit thread for over half a year, and while everybody assumed the script was just someone’s ‘fantasy.’
However, going back to this thread, people have discovered a mind-boggling connection between the release of the newest season and the scripts leaked months ago.
Skipping over the fact that only a few scenes are mentioned in this leak, when you read carefully what the article says, you will notice that almost all scenes mentioned in the leak are exactly transformed into video form in the recent episodes.
So is it possible that someone related to HBO is behind all this? The fact that this Reddit leak went almost un-noticed for weeks, and the next leak, could this all just be a publicity stunt?
The use of torrents has always plagued the viewership of TV shows for years, with Game of Thrones being no stranger to losing viewers on HBO. In spite of having a viewing audience of 50 million users, millions more have seen the TV series, and not necessarily legally.
Conspiracy theories will float about for a long time to come about the alleged leak, however from us here at Underground apk, this is all we have for today. Hoping to see you again soon, we hope we were able to update you on the current uproar. That’s it from us today, Ciao people!
